What is PASS?

At the ACE Learning Studio, our PASS program provides undergraduate students the unique opportunity to voluntarily meet twice weekly for group sessions led by trained undergraduate student PASS Leaders who are knowledgeable about subject matter. PASS Leaders facilitate the group study sessions by embedding hands-on practice of how to learn into learning activities centered on what to learn. Group sessions focus on learning difficult concepts from the lecture and practicing problems in our supported courses. PASS, also known as Supplemental Instruction (SI), is a program that targets traditionally difficult courses at FSU by implementation of frequent group study sessions focused on the most difficult content of the course. PASS was designed to increase retention and improve student performance in these difficult courses. Students who attend PASS, on average, score higher on tests and on final course grades than students who do not attend PASS. PASS programs have been found to have a positive impact on the persistence and retention of college students in historically difficult courses (Ogden, et al., 2003).
