Process for Locating a Tutor
On occasion, you may want to get tutoring or learning assistance outside of class. Your first step is to speak with your instructor, who may be willing to spend some time helping you during regular office hours or organized review sessions. However, if additional assistance is needed or recommended by your instructor, then you have a few options to explore:
- You may be able to get assistance from one of the Academic Support Centers on campus, which offer free tutoring services provided by graduate and/or professional staff employed by the University.
- Your instructor may be able to recommend a private tutor who has succeeded in that course or maybe even assisted with teaching that course. Please note: Florida State University does not screen, hire, or regulate the performance of private tutors even if they have been recommended by an instructor. You are responsible for contacting and paying private tutors. We encourage you to review our Advice for Hiring a Private Tutor.
- You may contact the academic department that offers the course to see if they maintain a departmental list of students who are interested in serving as a private tutor. Please note: Florida State University does not screen, hire, or regulate the performance of private tutors who have asked to be included on a departmental list. You are responsible for contacting and paying private tutors. We encourage you to review our Advice for Hiring a Private Tutor.
