Dr. Sara Hamon
|
Dr. Sara Hamon serves as the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Florida State University. Her role includes oversight of the new Academic Success Class (SLS 1122) and the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). Dr. Hamon has almost 20 years of experience in higher education, including teaching, administration, planning, policy analysis, and consulting. A native of Ohio, Dr. Hamon earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Heidelberg College (Ohio) and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University (Ohio). Dr. Hamon has worked at a range of diverse institutions, from small private colleges to large research universities. In 1992, she took her first job at Florida State University, working in student housing. After a brief hiatus working at the University of Florida, she returned “home” to earn a Ph.D. in Higher Education at Florida State. Dr. Hamon also has previous experience at the Florida Department of Education, including positions with the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission and the Division of Community Colleges. Additionally, Dr. Hamon has worked as a consultant with MGT, a nationally-known firm that specializes in education research and planning. Outside of work, Dr. Hamon enjoys the natural beauty and southern way of life in Tallahassee with her husband Kurt and their two children.

Dr. Page Rozelle |
Dr. Rozelle was part of the team that put together the first Academic Success course in Fall 2007. She brings a highly eclectic background (B.S. in Botany, M.A. in Expressive Therapies, and Ph.D. in Theatre Studies) and a passion for teaching to her assorted roles in the Academic Center for Excellence. Dr. Rozelle teaches the course, does personal academic consultations with individual students, and is involved with ongoing planning and program development. She is pleased to be a part of FSU’s ongoing commitment to supporting student success in and out of the classroom.

Dr. Patricia Golay |
Dr. Patricia Golay serves as an instructor for the Strategies for Academic Success course and coordinator of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Program Series. Dr. Golay hails from Los Angeles, California and attended California State University, Los Angeles where she received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in History. She taught middle and high school history, English, and special education classes in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 13 years. Dr. Golay earned her doctorate in Higher Education Administration in 2006 from Florida State University. She has a wealth of international experience including working for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Before joining the ACE team in the Division of Undergraduate Studies, she worked at FSU Center for Leadership and Civic Education as the grants coordinator for the Florida Learn & Serve program. Her research interests include service-learning, intercultural competence, and academic self-efficacy. Dr. Golay is committed to serving students and to ensuring that all students develop the skills and confidence needed to be academically successful.

Dr. Lisa Liseno |
Dr. Lisa Liseno is happy to have joined the Academic Center for Excellence(ACE) August of 2008. Dr. Liseno received her Ph.D. in Philosophy at FSU in the spring of 2007. Her background includes teaching, advising, and research. She is deeply committed to teaching and has taught many philosophy courses here at Florida State. In 2005 she earned an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for her teaching at Florida State. In addition she served as the undergraduate advisor for the FSU Philosophy department from 2005-2007. Dr. Liseno also received a research fellowship (The Kingsbury Award) in 2005-2006 for her research on her dissertation on weakness of will (akratic action). She is honored to serve as a member of the ACE team. As an instructor of the Academic Success course, she looks forward to helping students find ways to overcome challenges and meet their academic and personal goals.
Peter Hanowell |
Peter Hanowell serves as the Director of Tutoring Services within the Florida State University’s Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). In this role, Peter will lead the efforts to promote and expand tutoring services available to all enrolled FSU students. Peter came to FSU in 1998 as a graduate student in philosophy, and has remained at FSU in part because of the wonderfully cheerful and friendly nature of the people who make up this community. Peter obtained his M.A. degree in philosophy in 2001, and has taught numerous courses throughout his years at FSU. His professional career has focused on student academic services. He has been an academic advisor in the Philosophy Department, for exploratory students, and for nursing students. Most recently, he served the College of Nursing as the Assistant Dean of Students, during which time he was an advocate for nursing students and a liaison between those students and the rest of the Florida State University administration. Peter has numerous hobbies, including woodworking, philosophy, automotive repair, and art appreciation. However, he finds that he does not have time for said hobbies, as he is happily married to Robin Hanowell and is raising five children ranging in age from 15 to 3.
