This page provides information on other FSU courses designed to help students transition into college and plan for a major as well as a career.

  • Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs)

    A FIG is a pre-packaged cluster of high-demand freshman courses that have been linked by a theme or academic program. It also includes a one-credit FIG Colloquium (HUM1920), taught by an upper class student leader and designed to introduce you to the academic culture at Florida State University.

  • SDS3340: Introduction to Career Development

    SDS3340, Introduction to Career Development, provides students with an opportunity to learn and develop the necessary skills to engage in life/career planning. It is a variable credit course and can be taken for one, two, or three credit hours. The course is divided into three units: Career Concepts and Applications, Social Conditions Affecting Career Development, and Implementing a Strategic Career Plan. SDS3340 can assist students in many areas of their career development, from choosing a major and deciding on occupations, to learning about resumes, interviewing, and job search strategies.

  • REA1905: College Level Reading
    ENC1905: Improving Writing Skills
    ENG5998: Writing Graduate Papers
    If you are interested in working with a professional to improve your reading or writing skills, the Reading/Writing Center offers courses that can help. REA1905, ENC1905, and ENG5998 can be very useful for those semesters when you have courses with intensive reading or heavy writing assignments, or when you think you’ll just want some extra help. The courses ensure a student an appointment with a tutor every week. Each course can be taken as an elective for 1-3 credit hours.
